I'm posting on behalf of my friend. She has a sidekick slide and it has been restarting a lot. It was my understanding that a lot of sidekick slides had this defect so I told her to call tmobile and they should give her a new one. Tmobile is telling her she has to pay 100 dollars for a new one.
So am I incorrect in believing that a lot of sidekick slides were replaced for free because of this issue? Did anyone else have this problem?
I swear they fixed this problem.
And I'm pretty sure they get a free upgrade to an LX.
Customer care refuses to give her a new one free. Apparently my friend had to call within 14 days of getting it. Which is stupid because the problem didn't start happening until around the 14th day. So she didn't call the first time it happened because she didn't realize it was going to be a consistent problem. After that it was sporadically happening. So finally I realized it was happening and told her to call because it was a sidekick slide defect, not a temporary data plan issue like the sidekick 2 had before.
tell her to call back because as we all know, some of those cc reps know NOTHING.
anyway, yes there was a defect like this with a batch of slides. the battery was made too small so they would pop out when you slide it open/shut. t-mobile did a recall and everyone who had slides and decided to send it in, got a free upgrade to an LX. now the slides are back out so she should be able to return hers for a new slide, the 14 day thing really has nothing to do with it because either way her phone is under warranty for a year so if her phone is messing up and she hasnt dropped it or had it exposed to any water or any other liquid, then its not her fault and theyre supposed to replace it..free of charge.
To be clear, does the restart occur when the screen is flipped up/down or just randomly?
If its not the screen, it could just be the extremely common issue with most sidekicks where the memory is the issue.
You need to clear the broswer memory every two weeks or so to avoid crashes and restarts. Of course, this isn't in the manual.
This is accomplished by going into the menu while in the browser, going into settings at the bottom and clearing cache and history. Not the cookies.
This could be the real issue if its not the slide.
thinking about it, also, it doesn't really matter what the issue is, if the phone isn't working right, you always have a 1 year warranty for problems not related to physical damage.
I'll tell her to try the memory thing just in case. But it seems to be happening so much now that it's a problem beyond that.
that is complete bullshit considering it's a TECHNICAL problem, tmobile told me they would fix technical problems for free. meaning if you dropped your phone and broke it, you're screwed. i'm not really helping but i just felt like adding my 2 cents.
Tell her since chances are high of her getting a moron on the phone to spell out if she has to D-E-F-E-C-T and W-A-R-R-A-N-T-Y
Because in reality whether its a sidekick or nokia having a well known problem or something unheard of as long as there isn't any obviously inflicted damage they owe you a properly working device period.
Well, they're all idiots apparently. My friend tried calling again to get someone else and the guy goes "What is your problem that makes you keep calling us?"
i have a slide and it works fine but i always have connection or sim card problems
I just called the TMobile store - I'm going thru a similar issue, this would be my 4th Slide and they're giving me an LX no questions asked.
Deal with the people in the store, you're almost better off.
